Tennis Europe Awards: The Czech Republic took the lead, Romania climbed into the top ten
Throughout September, the Tennis Europe Awards rankings were shaped by results from the European Junior Championships, the Paralympics, and the monthly updates across all categories.
What are the Tennis Europe Awards? This trophy is presented annually to the European nation achieving the best overall results across five categories: professional, junior, senior, wheelchair, and beach tennis. There was no change at the top of the professional rankings, aside from the UK’s slight improvement over Serbia. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the rankings, Slovakia moved up two positions.
While the Czech Republic retained its lead, Romania made the most impressive leap to second place in the junior rankings last month, earning a notable 640 points at the European Junior Championships. Romanian players claimed three titles in the Boys 16&U singles, Boys 18&U singles, and Boys 18&U doubles events. Teams from Italy, the Netherlands, and Bosnia and Herzegovina also showed strong progress.
In the senior tennis category, players from the UK significantly strengthened their position in the ITF World Tennis Tour Masters Rankings, allowing the country to overtake France and claim 3rd place. Lower in the rankings, Hungary and Slovakia delivered impressive performances, advancing to 3rd and 4th positions, respectively.
In the past month, there was no change at the top of the wheelchair tennis category rankings. However, Turkey climbed three spots in the middle of the table, thanks to the strong performances of its tennis players at the Paralympics.
In September, the Tennis Europe Awards beach tennis rankings remained unchanged, with Italy maintaining a strong lead, leaving little chance for France and Spain, who are trailing behind, to catch up by year’s end.
