Total prize money for WTA 125 tournaments set to hit record $6 million in 2025

According to the Women’s Tennis Association, this will give both rising and established players the chance to build their careers and reach the highest levels of the tour.
The increase in total prize money is mainly due to a larger number of tournaments. In the 2025 season, the WTA 125 Circuit will feature more than 50 events, double the total in 2022, when there were 24.
WTA CEO Portia Archer said the growth of the series reflects its strong appeal and the growing interest in women’s tennis. “For the WTA, this is a unique opportunity to bring tennis to new markets and support players at all levels, from emerging talents to established names,” she said.
New events in 2025 include the debut of the Cancún Tennis Open (Mexico), the Rio Ladies Open (Brazil), and the first-ever Open Internacional de San Sebastián in the Basque region of Spain. The Changsha Open (China) will also return to the calendar, while the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, USA, will host a revived women’s grass-court tournament.
This shows that the WTA 125 series plays a strategic role as a bridge between young talents and the top tier of the sport. Interest in women’s tennis remains strong not only among fans but also among sponsors, with more companies willing to invest in mid-level events as a way to enter new markets and support player development.
As a reminder, WTA 125 is a lower-tier series on the WTA Tour, just below WTA 250 tournaments in status and prize money. These events allow players to earn ranking points, gain experience at a high level, and prepare for the elite tour.
