Miami Open becomes first tennis tournament to feature padel

Padel, a sport rapidly growing in popularity worldwide, has traditionally been featured as part of fan zones rather than as a standalone competition at major tennis events.
In a bold move, the organizers of the 2025 Miami Open have officially integrated padel into the tournament’s program. This decision acknowledges the sport’s rising influence, particularly at the club level, where it is emerging as a strong competitor to tennis.
The newly introduced Publix Padel Cup, sponsored by the largest grocery chain in the U.S., will take place at Hard Rock Stadium from March 27 to 30. The event will feature 24 teams competing for a $25,000 prize pool.
To make this addition possible, Miami Open organizers invested in new infrastructure. Padel Lux, a supplier of commercial and home padel courts, has installed three premium courts on the tournament grounds. One of these courts is located in the Padel Lounge, a new space where fans can learn more about the sport and participate in private coaching sessions throughout the tournament.
Some professional tennis players have already joined the padel wave. Mirra Andreeva, for example, recently took the court with Arturo Coello, one of the sport’s top players.
The inclusion of padel at elite tennis tournaments is still in its early stages, but it represents a compelling trend. For tournament organizers, it offers fresh opportunities to attract new sponsors and enhance spectator engagement, signaling a potential shift in the way multi-sport events are structured in the future.
As we previously reported, the 2025 Miami Open has attracted a record-breaking number of sponsors, further highlighting its growing influence in the sports industry.
