A magical tennis spot in Positano, Italy

Another reason to visit Italy is to take advantage of the times when it’s less crowded with tourists.

Positano is a village on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, situated in the hills leading down to the coast. Because of its moderate temperatures and beautiful landscape, Positano has been a resort since Roman times, as shown by the excavation of villas in the bay. The village is known for its many staircases that connect the upper areas with the valley below.

One of the main tourist attractions in Positano is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which features a dome made of majolica tiles and a Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna from the thirteenth century.

Interestingly, the fictional town of Mongibello from the 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley is based on Positano. Towns and villages on the islands of Ischia and Procida were used to portray Mongibello in the 1999 film adaptation of the novel.

The beautiful tennis court is situated between a cliff with lush Mediterranean greenery and a pebble beach, allowing players to enjoy a game right by the seashore while being sheltered by a mountain gorge. However, the court is not accessible to everyone; only guests of the local hotel Il San Pietro have exclusive access to it, and staying there is quite expensive.

The closest major airport to Positano is Naples Capodichino International Airport (Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli-Capodichino), located approximately 60 km from Positano. From the airport, you can get to Positano by car, bus, or taxi.
